How Your Comms Room Shouldn't Look

I recently came across this comms room and couldn't resist taking a photo. If your comms room resembles this photo then you could be putting your business at risk.

Maintaining your IT Equipment

snakes on a planeThis comms room is in a confined space without any air conditioning and the messy cabling is restricting air flow. As a result, the equipment in the cabinet is overheating. Too much heat can lead to slower performance and, ultimately, equipment failure. An air conditioned room is the ideal way to maintain the right temperature but, for smaller cabinets, a well ventilated room may be sufficient. In all cases, cabling such as this should be avoided!

Avoiding IT Downtime

I found this room to be a major health and safety issue, especially when I almost tripped over the nest of cables! Not only could you injure yourself but what if a cord is accidentally pulled out? Would you notice? Diagnosing and correcting this could require hours of IT support troubleshooting and downtime to the business.

I also noticed that some of the cables were bent and pulled taut, this could cause the fibres to break and result in intermittent or permanent connection issues.

This would have been all avoided if the cables had been organised and maintained from the initial set up.

Outsourced IT Support

This photo is a prime example of improper management and lack of work ethic. This should never happen if your provider is reliable, dedicated and organised and we pride ourselves on being just that! If you care about your IT and how it's being managed then it's time to give us a call.
